Bowls

Carved Spruce Tree Stumps (2021-Ongoing)

After removing standing dead spruce trees for fire-wood, I began carving bowls into the remaining stumps. Initially this was just a tidying space for squirrels to sort out their spruce cones, then the temperature broke 40 degrees in this area for the first time and I realized that this was a project about climate change. I began filling the bowls with water as a pathetic and hopeful gesture towards the ecosystem. I installed trail cameras to see if there would be any response to the gesture.
